ConoHa WING review (2026): WordPress live in 11 minutes

I bought a WINGパック plan, ran a real WordPress site on it for 30 days, and timed everything from signup to first published post. Here is what works, and what does not.

Rental servers, in plain words

A rental server is a computer in a datacenter that keeps your website online while you sleep. For a WordPress blog you need three things bundled: hosting (the computer), a domain (the address), and an SSL certificate (the padlock). Buying these separately and wiring them together is where most first-time bloggers give up.

What worked for me

The かんたんセットアップ promise held up. From clicking 'apply' to publishing a Hello World post took 11 minutes 04 seconds, including a 4-minute wait for the SSL cert to provision. I have done the same flow on Xserver in 22 minutes and on Lolipop in 19.

The auto backup saved me on day 9. I deleted my own database while testing a plugin migration and restored from yesterday's snapshot in 4 minutes from the WING dashboard. No tickets, no waiting. 14 days of daily backups are kept by default at no extra charge.

The dashboard is in real Japanese, not machine-translated Japanese. Every label uses the words a Japanese hosting customer actually uses (サイト管理, ドメイン, メール) instead of awkward translations of cPanel terminology. Small thing, but it cuts the time you spend hunting for menus.

What is missing

There is no phone support. All technical contact goes through chat (weekday business hours) or email (24-hour response window). Xserver still wins this one if you have ever needed to call someone at midnight.

The dashboard is custom — not cPanel, not Plesk. If you ever migrate to a server that uses the standard tools, you re-learn the workflow. Most users will not care; engineers who manage multiple hosts might.

The headline price is a campaign price. WINGパック ベーシック shows '月643円' on the marketing page, which is the 36-month contract paid up front during a campaign. Renewal after that 36-month block is 1,452 yen/month at the time of writing. Set a calendar reminder for month 35.

A free domain is bundled. That replaces the 1,500-3,000 yen/year you would otherwise pay a registrar, and the domain stays free as long as you keep the WINGパック active. Two domains on the higher plans.

There is a 30-day money-back window on WINGパック. Cancel inside 30 days and the WINGパック portion is refunded — domain registration fees are not. In practice this works as a low-risk trial.

Reassurance for first-timers

Daily auto backups for 14 days are kept by default. Restoring is a single click from the dashboard, not a support ticket. This is the safety net that lets you experiment with plugins without fear.

Setup walkthrough

Six steps from signup to a published post. Total wall-clock time was 11 minutes in my run, with the SSL provisioning step running on its own.

Step 1 — Pick a plan (30 seconds)

On the apply page choose WINGパック → ベーシック → contract length. The 12-month plan is the sweet spot for first-time bloggers; you save a lot vs the monthly plan and you have not over-committed yet.

Step 2 — Choose a domain (90 seconds)

Type the domain name in the 独自ドメイン field. Available .com, .net, .jp, and .blog options appear inline. Pick one and it is reserved on the spot — no separate registrar account.

Step 3 — WordPress かんたんセットアップ (60 seconds)

Enter サイト名, サイト用新規ドメイン (auto-filled from step 2), WordPress admin user, password, and email. Pick a theme from the dropdown if you have one in mind, or skip and decide later.

Step 4 — Account and payment (3 minutes)

Create the ConoHa account (email plus password). Pay by credit card or キャリア決済. The card form is the standard one — no quirks. Save credentials before clicking 次へ; the form does not retain on error.

Step 5 — SMS or call verification (30 seconds)

ConoHa sends a 4-digit code to the phone number you registered. Type it in. This step exists to prevent fraud and only happens once per account.

Step 6 — Wait for SSL (5-10 minutes, automatic)

The dashboard shows 'SSL設定中' for a few minutes while Let's Encrypt issues the certificate. Once it flips to '利用中' the site is live at https://yourdomain — open the WordPress admin URL listed in the dashboard and start writing.

Verdict

ConoHa WING is the cleanest path from 'I want a blog' to 'my blog is online' in Japan in 2026. The kantan setup is not a marketing slogan — it is a real, working flow that took me 11 minutes end to end. For a first-time WordPress user, that alone is worth the price of admission.

Watch the renewal price. The campaign rate is genuinely good; the post-campaign rate is ordinary. A 35-month calendar reminder turns this from a trap into a normal hosting cost. Pay attention to that one detail and ConoHa WING is hard to beat for the audience it targets.

Should I pick ConoHa WING or Xserver?
ConoHa WING for raw speed and a faster onboarding flow; Xserver if you have ever felt the need to call a support line at night. The two are within ~10% on price for equivalent plans, so the deciding factor is usually support style and dashboard preference, not yen.
Can I move my existing WordPress blog to ConoHa WING?
Yes — the かんたん移行 tool takes the source server's FTP credentials and database export and runs the copy itself. In my test, a 600-post blog moved over in under 40 minutes. DNS cutover is the longest step (TTL-dependent, usually a few hours).
Is the renewal price avoidable?
Not directly — once a contract block ends, you renew at the post-campaign rate. What is avoidable is being surprised by it. Pick the longest contract you are confident in (12 or 36 months), set a reminder for month 35, and re-evaluate then.

Yes. Point the domain's nameservers to Cloudflare, set the A record to ConoHa's IP, and turn on full-strict SSL. The ConoHa-side Let's Encrypt cert keeps the origin connection encrypted. I have run this combination for 30 days with no issues.
Which WordPress version does kantan setup install?
The current stable WordPress release at the time you provision — at the time of writing, 6.7.x. PHP defaults to 8.2 and can be switched to 8.3 in the dashboard. Auto-update for minor versions is on by default; major versions are opt-in.
Is the admin dashboard available in English?
Partially. The dashboard chrome has an English option in the top-right toggle, but several documentation links and some advanced settings remain Japanese-only. If you do not read Japanese at all, this is the single biggest friction point — most other things have English equivalents.
